How to Get an Emotional Support Animal Letter

With an ESA letter, your animal companion can officially qualify as an emotional support animal (ESA). ESA owners have special rights when it comes to housing and on certain airlines. Under federal law, the only legitimate way to have an ESA is to obtain a recommendation letter (known as an ESA letter) from a licensed health care professional. Despite what you may have read and heard, you cannot qualify an ESA with registration, license, vest or ID card. American Service pets is a technology company that advocates for emotional support animal owners and helps connect clients to real licensed health care professionals. We are proud of our mission to help people suffering from mental and emotional issues, especially those that are having trouble finding a therapist in person or have limited financial means.

An Emotional Support Animal (ESA) can be any animal species within reasonable limits that helps alleviate the symptoms associated with stress, anxiety, and various mental health issues. However, they are most typically a dog or a cat, and do not require any training to perform a specific task. ESA letters are used to ensure that the ESA owner can still live with their companion in housing arrangements that have no pet policies or require pet rent. A Psychiatric Service Animal (PSA), however, can only be a dog and must be trained in a specific task pertaining to the owner’s diagnosed condition. Due to new DOT regulations, ESAs may not be permitted to fly in the cabin with their handler, whereas PSAs can. PSAs are the same as other service dogs and have the same rights protected under the ADA. American Service Pets’ network of healthcare professionals write letters for both ESAs and PSAs.

Please email hello@my.americanservicepets.com immediately after your purchase with an updated shipping address.

No. The doctor still needs to review your application. You will receive an email as soon as your status changes.

No. Each individual needs to be separately evaluated by one of our doctors as each individual person will have varying symptoms and/or reasons for an Emotional Support Animal.

Please allow 1 full business day after you have been approved for your items to ship.

The new law is not a ban. It is simply stating that airlines are no longer required to accept ESAs. Now individual airlines have the option to decide whether they want to accept ESAs in the cabin, at their discretion.

Good question. Because this is a fairly new ruling and airlines are still making their announcements, we highly recommend that you call the airline to verify their ESA policies prior to booking.

Housing laws regarding accommodations for ESA owners have not changed. Therefore, you may continue to utilize your ESA letter for your housing needs.

ESAs can be any animal species within reasonable limits, but they’re typically dogs or cats. A Psychiatric Service Animal can only be a dog. Additionally, an ESA does not need to be trained to perform a specific task. A Psychiatric Service Animal needs to be trained to perform a specific task or set of tasks.

We understand and acknowledge that ID cards are not required by the ADA and that this can be a concern for some within the community. However, since our founding we have held an unwavering commitment to helping those who struggle with mental illness cultivate a lifestyle that aids in their disability and makes their day-to-day easier. In consulting our customer base and others within the ESA/PSA community, ID cards are a quick and easy way to identify that a dog has their doctor letter, is trained, and meets the psychiatric needs of the handler. Holding these ID cards helps mitigate questioning and confusion by businesses and individuals as PSA holders navigate daily life.
